LIVE WEBINAR

Deep Dive into Yamas and Niyamas:

Brahmacharya (Temperance)

Tuesday, 28 June, 19:00 – 20:30 CEST

“If you can’t see God in all, you can’t see God at all.”
– Yogi Bhajan

In its literal meaning, Brahmacharya could be translated as “behavior which leads to our Supreme Self” or simpler “walking with God”, indicating the high achievement it grants, and the righteous path it offers.

This path is a path of moderation, teaching us to enjoy the pleasures of our senses in the right measure. It teaches us to avoid overindulgence in all our experiences – from erotic pleasures to food delights, from sleep to work, from social media to all kinds of addictions.

In absence of better knowledge or methods, pleasure and desires were often cursed as temptations and suppressed. Yet, as in all Yamas and Niyamas, it is our awareness that makes all the difference.

In the case of Brahmacharya, the lucid contemplation of our desires is the first step, allowing us conscious choices of how to deal with our various energies, and when it is time to stop.

The strongest energy in our human life, the sexual energy, offers a perfect playground to exercise our temperance. We do not need to become abstinent and refrain from erotic interaction to avoid getting lost in lust. Erotic amorous continence allows us to fully enjoy and consciously experience the erotic fusion while perfectly controlling and directing our energies through awareness.

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go do it. Because what the world needs it people who have come alive”
– Howard Thurman
